Self-Assembly of Flexible Linear–Semiflexible Bottlebrush–Flexible Linear Triblock Copolymers

چکیده

Block copolymer (BCP) self-assembly is a fundamental process in which incompatible blocks spontaneously form organized microstructures with broad practical applications. Classical understanding that the domain spacing limited by contour length of polymer backbone. Here, using combination molecular design, chemical synthesis, small-/wide-angle X-ray scattering, transmission electron microscopy, and tomography, we discover this picture does not hold for architecturally semiflexible BCPs. For strongly segregated linear–semiflexible bottlebrush–linear triblock copolymers, size bottlebrush can be twice backbone length. The mechanism such anomalous likely interfacial repulsion between large enough to pull part linear end into domain. This effectively increases size. Moreover, widens regime cylinder morphology associated volume fraction fCSFB ∈ (0.10, >0.41). window much wider than flexible BCPs, fCF (0.14, 0.35), predicted recent self-consistent field theory linear-bottlebrush BCPs same chemistry architecture. Our experimental findings reveal previously unrecognized mechanisms complex

Self-assembly of metal-polymer analogues of amphiphilic triblock copolymers.

Organized arrays of anisotropic nanoparticles show electronic and optical properties that originate from the coupling of shape-dependent properties of the individual nanorods. The organization of nanorods in a controllable and predictable way provides a route to the fabrication of new materials and functional devices. So far, significant progress has been achieved in the self-assembly of nanoro...

Nucleobase-functionalized ABC triblock copolymers: self-assembly of supramolecular architectures.

RAFT polymerization afforded acrylic ABC triblock copolymers with self-complementary nucleobase-functionalized external blocks and a low-Tg soft central block. ABC triblock copolymers self-assembled into well-defined lamellar microphase-separated morphologies for potential applications as thermoplastic elastomers. Complementary hydrogen bonding within the hard phase facilitated self-assembly an...

Self-assembled architectures from biohybrid triblock copolymers.

The synthesis and self-assembly behavior of biohybrid ABC triblock copolymers consisting of a synthetic diblock, polystyrene-b-polyethylene glycol (PSm-b-PEG113), where m is varied, and a hemeprotein, myoglobin (Mb) or horse radish peroxidase (HRP), is described. The synthetic diblock copolymer is first functionalized with the heme cofactor and subsequently reconstituted with the apoprotein or ...

Self-assembly of ABC star triblock copolymers under a cylindrical confinement.

Self-assembly of ABC star triblock copolymers confined in cylindrical nanopores is studied using real-space self-consistent mean-field theory. Specifically, the investigation focuses on the confined self-assembly of a triblock copolymer which forms hierarchical lamellae in the bulk. Generically, the hierarchical lamellae can be parallel or perpendicular to the pore surfaces. Concentric rings of...
